John C. DeFalco, CPA, MST, specializes in providing income, estate tax planning and compliance services for high net worth individuals, and designs strategies for wealth accumulation, tax efficient wealth transfers, and retirement planning. John also oversees a significant portion of the firm's tax compliance and wealth management services and counsels closely held companies on tax and succession planning issues. For over 30 years, John has rendered expert advice to clients around the world. John sits on the firm’s Executive Committee.
John is an active member in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Personal Financial Planning Section; the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants- Suffolk Chapter, of which he is a member of the Estate Planning Committee and a founding member of the Young CPAs Committee, John also serves as co-chairman of the Banker/CPA Golf Outing Committee for the Suffolk Chapter. In addition, he is a member of the Tax Institute at Long Island University, and the Estate Planning Council of Suffolk County.
John understands the importance of making time to serve his community. For more than 18 years he has held a seat on the Board of Directors of the East Northport Chamber of Commerce, serving on many committees. For the past 12 years, John has been on the Executive Board of the National Academy Foundation- Academy of Finance Program at Northport High School. The program promotes a multidisciplinary approach to financial literacy, enhanced by a lecture series, bringing industry professionals into the classroom weekly. Students participate in a paid internship in the financial sector as a requirement to graduate from the program. In 2014, John was instrumental in creating Northport Students Mean Business, Inc, a not for profit organization, for which he serves on the Board of Directors and as the Treasurer. Our mission is fundraising to enhance the Academy of Finance program at Northport High School. John also serves as Director/Treasurer for the Richard Becher Memorial Foundation for Safety in Sports, Inc., a not for profit Organization he founded in 2014, after the tragic loss of his close friend to a sports related injury. Together with Richie’s family and friends, work is being done to raise awareness and promote safety in youth sporting events with the hope that we can prevent another tragic loss of a young athlete or coach. In 2017 John was elected to the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk, Inc Foundation.
John is passionate about serving as a mentor, and protecting children from substance abuse. As a stakeholder in the Northport-East Northport Drug and Alcohol Task Force, he serves as a liaison between the task force and local business community. John has been involved in organizing fundraising events for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County, Toys-for -Tots, Veteran's Organizations, and many other charitable organizations.
The Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk County recognized John for his outstanding community service by naming him Honoree at their 10th annual Golf Classic in August 2014.
John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from The New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, and a Master's degree in Taxation from Long Island University. He holds the AICPA Certificate of Educational Achievement in Personal Financial Planning. In addition to being a licensed Certified Public Accountant, he hold a New York State Life and Health Insurance License, and is a New York State Registered Investment Advisor.
John enjoys spending time with his wife Michele and their three children. Any remaining spare time is spent playing golf or tinkering with classic cars.
